Thursday, June 27, 2013: Mt. Gleason paintbrush is back — the hows and whys of plant name changes, with Gary Wallace: Changes in plant names and groupings have gone on from Abrams to Davidson to Jepson to Munz to Munz, to Jepson to Jepson, etc. Changes will likely continue. We will touch on  why names change and how changes are made. Why doesn't this happen to common names?  Plant names and groupings change in accordance with new information that reflects their relationships.  With common names we just add new ones and never discard the old ones.

Gary Wallace is a Botanist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and a Research Associate at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden. He is also a member of our CNPS chapter.
