Thursday, May 28, 2020, 7:30 p.m.: ZOOM meeting: A tale of two floras, botanical adventures at home and abroad, with Evan Meyer: California is globally renowned for its fantastic displays of annuals, sweeping landscapes of drought adapted shrubs, and charismatic trees. The flora of Western South Africa is equally famous, containing an incredible diversity of flowering shrubs, succulents and bulbs. Join Evan Meyer of Theodore Payne Foundation as he shares stories of his travels throughout California, and a recent expedition to the Western Cape of South Africa. Evan will compare these two remarkable parts of the world and describe how gardeners can find inspiration, ideas, and lots of cool new plants in their wild landscapes.
Evan Meyer is Executive Director at the Theodore Payne Foundation. He previously worked as Assistant Director of the UCLA Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden and as Seed Conservation Program Manager at California Botanic Garden. Evan grew up in Massachusetts and held botanical positions at Harvard University and the New England Wildflower Society before relocating to Southern California.
