Santa Clara Divide Road

During 2008, our CNPS chapter sponsored a monthly series of plant walks, led by Jane Strong, each month visiting a different elevation in the Chilao area, thus following the spring bloom as it gradually extended higher and higher into the mountains. The photos below are all from the walk of July 2008, which took us along Santa Clara Divide Road.

Santa Clara Divide Road goes to the west several miles from its junction with the Angeles Crest Highway at location known as Three Points, about three miles north of Chilao Visitors Center, and not far beyond Newcomb Ranch. The road services several private mountain lodges, the Bandido and Horse Flats campgrounds, and various walking trails. We drove as far as the western end of the trail to Mt. Hillyer, stopping at various locations to explore for wildflowers.
