California Native Plant Society
San Gabriel Mountains Chapter

Around Pasadena

Many of us in the San Gabriel Mountains Chapter of CNPS live in cities adjacent to the southern slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains, or nearby. Within these cities are remnants of native vegetation, especially in hilly areas not fully suitable for building, or along river washes. This page presents some of the native flowers and plants in and around the western edge of Pasadena. This area constitutes the eastern extremety of the San Rafael Hills, where the vegetation cover is a cross between coastal sage scrub and chaparral, i.e. a transition between the coastal and mountain types of vegetation. (Note: None of the plants/flowers on this page is from cultivation.)
